Hoarfrost

We had days and days of hoarfrost last week. Each day another layer of frost was added to the previous day's accumulation. It finally left on Friday, and it's lovely to have sunny days again, but I kind of miss the frost.

Knitters' Hand Balm

I've been working on a new product--Knitters' Hand Balm. I wanted to make a balm that incorporated lanolin for intense moisture, and calendula/comfrey infused olive oil for healing. This balm contains beeswax, a generous amount of cocoa butter, lanolin, jojoba and macadamia nut oils. It's scented with lemongrass and vetiver essential oils.

My next step is to have my mom and my aunt (both passionate knitters) test drive these!

Caravan Farmers' Market

I decided to try the last market of the season at Caravan Farm on Sunday, October 9th. It was a beautiful day although it started off chilly and overcast. I don't think the market was well advertised and there weren't many vendors or customers, but those who were there were well rewarded with the beauty of the day and the gorgeous location, as well as friendly vendors, musicians and wagon rides. I hope to be part of this market next year!

Harvest Moon

I've been thinking about doing a harvest moon soap for some time and just couldn't figure out some of the mechanics, colours, the moon itself, etc. I do love how it turned out, but Richard says a true harvest moon is yellow or orange, which is what distinguishes it from a regular full moon. Later...ha! I just looked up harvest moon on the net and found out that a harvest moon is the one that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. As for the colour, it only appears yellow or red when it's close to the horizon, and apparently it's caused by light from the moon passing through more particles than when it's directly overhead. So, my harvest moon soap depicts the moon AFTER it has risen past the horizon!


The blue is mostly indigo, and the yellow has oxides and calendula petals. I was going for ripe or harvested fields.

This is a Citrus Kitchen Bar, also new. Lots of citrus and some granulated orange peel for scrubbing action.
